The Worsley Efficiency and Growth Project is to be built for Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd and will expand the plant to a maximum capacity of approximately 4.6 Mtpa.
In April 2007, the Worsley Efficiency and Growth Project was given approval by BHP Billiton and the JV Partners, to pursue a "go forward" solution to take it through further Feasibility and Approval Phases.
Following successful completion of these Phases, Project Execution was announced on 1 May 2008.

The Worsley Efficiency and Growth Project is a joint venture management company. The ownership structure is BHP Billiton (86 per cent), Japan Alumina Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd (10 per cent) and Sojitz Alumina Pty Ltd (4 per cent).
